Antique Rugs
When it comes to floor coverings, there are few things
more interesting than antique rugs! The look and feel of an antique rug can
bring back great memories for most. Generally, an antique rug is usually at
least thirty years old, though not necessarily older than eighty. An antique
rug is also any rug that is over 80 years of age.

Rugs Categories
So basically, for identification purposes, the antique
rugs fall into the following semi-antique categories: antique oriental rugs, Persian rugs, Sisal rugs, Fine
Persian rugs, African rugs, and Oriental and Persian carpets. So now that we
have defined the antique category let's take a closer look at each of these
categories to see their unique qualities. For easy identification, all the
names mentioned here are based on the country in which they were made.
Of course, no discussion of antique rugs would be complete without mentioning carpets! One of
the first types of carpets from Asia was the silk rugs or damask rugs, which
were heavily exported throughout Europe and the Middle East in the late
eighteen hundreds. Silk was a highly valued commodity and was considered the
"wisdom of the ages." Carpets were intricately woven and had rich
colors initially created by weaving different colored dyes. The dyes would
often be combined with natural indigo and different kinds of minerals to create
the colors in the carpet. This process was extremely labor-intensive as a
result of the time it took to dye the dyes properly.
Antique
rugs
and carpets are often highly prized, but they are also quite valuable as
antiques. Of course, most people prefer to purchase antique rugs as decor, but
some collectors enjoy the thrill of bidding on these rugs and carpets as well.
It should be noted that these rugs and carpets are not known for their quality,
so you may end up spending a great deal of money on an antique rug or carpet.
Nonetheless, if you are a true collector, there is no better way to enhance the
value of your home than to have it adorned with an exquisite piece of an antique
rug.
