Rhinoplasty to Correct a Bulbous Nose Tip After Rhinoplasty
Performing rhinoplasty to correct a bulbous nose tip is a common
surgical procedure. The goal of this procedure is to reshape the nasal tip to
create a more aesthetically pleasing appearance.
Rhinoplasty can be performed as an outpatient procedure,
under local or general anesthesia. The procedure will last about one hour. The
surgery will be performed using an open incision across the columella (the
narrow part of the nasal bridge between the nostrils). The incision allows the
surgeon to gain access to the cartilages of the nose.
During the procedure, the surgeon will remove excessive
cartilage. The surgeon will also reshape the remaining cartilage. This can be
done with cartilage taken from the septum, ribs, or other areas of the nose.
Bulbous Nose Tip Technique
The tip of the nose is the thickest area of skin, so it
takes the longest time to heal. This can make it appear crooked for some time
after the surgery. However, it should straighten out over time.Swelling is
common during the initial week after the bulbous nose tip surgery,
but will usually subside after four to six weeks. Some patients will experience
bruising, but it should fade away within two weeks.
A special internal tissue suturing technique can also be
used to refine the nose tip. The best way to determine which rhinoplasty
technique is best for your nose is to consult a board certified plastic
surgeon. They will be able to discuss the procedure and provide before and after
pictures of previous patients.
